Abstract

355
The present study is a reflection on the grave secularization process during the last quarter of the 20th century in the «First World» (Western Europe, North America and Australia). This «secularism» is evident in the abandonment of religious practice, the increase of civil marriages and live-in arrangements, the so-called «epidemic» of divorce (John Paul II), followed by the crisis of the family institution, the acceptance of abortion in civil legislation and social habits. This secularization is also manifest in the increasing percentage of non-baptized population or persons who do not consider themselves as Catholics. This is a comparative statistical study of Catholicism in the «First World» with respect to the other countries where Catholicism is firmly rooted.
