Abstract

1017
The data that we submit in this article are the result of a content analysis focused on the visual representation of immigration through related photographs appearing on the major Spanish newspapers. This research is part of a broader project aiming at the treatment of immigration in the news. From the outcomes obtained, bearing in mind the Framing Theory as theoretical basis, it can be affirmed that coverage given to each one of the participants taking part in the immigration (police officers, politicians, and immigrants themselves) is different. In the same way, there are differences, regarding immigration topics, among the different Spanish newspapers which mainly depend upon the newspaper’s editorial (progressive vs. conservative) or the type of paper (prestige press vs. tabloids).
