The exclusion of the public in the communication activities carried out by the media requires a new understanding of their role in actual societies. The so called "ritual view of communication" offers a solution to the social deficit of the media, gives a new theoretical context to the participation of audiences in mass media and allows enlarge the repertory of nowadays ways of participation. This repertory has recently been increased thanks to the interactivity brought by new technologies.

RIGHTS TRANSFER
