The Meeting is the Message: Reflections on Transformation, Managerialism and Autonomy in Academia from South Africa

Resumen

Las reuniones de personal son un instrumento de control gerencial. En este artículo, reflexiono críticamente sobre la literatura existente y sobre mi propia experiencia para problematizar la proliferación de reuniones en las instituciones de educación superior sudafricanas. Se contrasta una representación positiva de las reuniones como espacios de participación democrática con una realidad de crecientes demandas y disminución de la felicidad. El estudio destaca las tensiones entre la transformación demográfica y el aumento del control, entre la colegialidad y el gerencialismo y entre la autonomía y los imperativos departamentales, institucionales y nacionales.
