Resumen
Este artículo identifica y analiza algunas influencias cristianas duraderas en el derecho y la ciencia jurídica: (1) una doctrina de la imagen de Dios que apoya la dignidad humana y la igualdad; (2) una antropología jurídica que sitúa a las personas y sus derechos en el centro del sistema jurídico; (3) un sentido de respeto por el universo, el orden natural y la propiedad individual; (4) la promoción de valores espirituales, como la misericordia, el amor y el perdón, que fomentan la comunidad y restauran la unidad; (5) una necesaria estructura dualista Iglesia/Estado de la sociedad; (6) la doctrina y el desarrollo del derecho a la libertad religiosa; (7) un concepto universal del derecho natural; (8) un desarrollo original del derecho canónico; y (9) algunos principios sociopolíticos relevantes: federación, democracia y subsidiariedad, entre otros. Algunas de estas aportaciones son exclusivas del cristianismo, otras derivan de otras tradiciones de pensamiento y creencia o las comparten. Algunas tienen un carácter más teológico, otras más espiritual o antropológico, otras más estructural o social, pero todas iluminan algunos aspectos del derecho y de los sistemas jurídicos, tanto históricamente como en la actualidad.
