Un cambio fundamental en los patrones de empleo entre los arquitectos en Norteamérica durante las décadas de 1960 y 1970 afectó la forma en que se monopolizaron o delegaron determinados tipos de tareas dentro de los estudios. Este artículo utiliza el archivo del estudio de arquitectura con sede en Estados Unidos, Gunnar Birkerts and Associates, para dar testimonio de un abismo cada vez mayor entre los arquitectos ejecutivos y los arquitectos empleados (en particular, las mujeres asignadas al trabajo de interiores), así como la persistencia de ideales de práctica chovinistas en circunstancias cambiantes. Se muestra el proyecto del edificio del Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis para ilustrar el abismo entre trabajos creativos e interpretativos.
