Abstract

129
Diathermocoagulation of the lateral half of the last 3 differenciated somites and cranial portion of the dorsal mesoderm, as well as of the corresponding intermediate mesoderm, produced a syndrom similar to that appearing spontaneusly in human foetuses, i. e., aplasia or hypoplasia of the abdominal musculature and agenesis or malformation of the urogenital system.
A localized diathermocoagulation in the anlage of the mesonephric duct interrupted the caudal growth of this duct and consequently the appearance of the ureter and differentiation of the metanephric primordium, but did not alter the formation of the abdominal wall. This last experiment led to the conclusion that the aplasia of the abdominal musculature is not secondary to the urinary alterations; both processes seem provoked -as the first experiment proves- by the same etiological agent as destroys, simultaneusly, the neighbouring intermediate mesoderm and the lateral portion of dorsal mesoderm.
