Abstract

150
The article tries to answer this question: does Hildegard of Bingen appear as a mystic in the Symphonia de Sancta Maria of the Visio XIII of Scivias? I intend to prove that Hildegard was an eminent theologian, and at the same time a prophetic teacher in imitation of her model, Mary the prophet. The interpretation of this Symphonia de Sancta Maria clarifies its rationality -rationalitas– its pneumatological characteristics, and shows how it expresses the affectionate glance of the Supreme Father on Mary. Through this interpretation I intend to reflect the Marian aspects of the dogmatic content in Hildegard’s mysticism. This interpretation corroborates Hans Urs von Balthasar’s description of Hildegard as a «dogmatic mystic».
