Abstract

159
The presence at Vatican Council ii of the «official observers» from various churches of Rome, was important owing to the variety of their contributions and their theological and cultural relevance. Among them it is fitting to recall Doi Masatoshi of the Nihon Kirisuto Kyodan, who participated in the second and third sessions of the council assembly. His contributions show freedom of judgment and the ability to capture particular aspects, both liturgical and dogmatic, and especially in the field of dialogue. In this sector, following the teachings of Tillich, but deepened with an originality of his own, he insisted on mutual knowledge not only among Christian denominations but also the heritage of other religions. In subsequent years the Council continued working on these topics.
