Abstract

The activity of pontomedullar reticular formation neurons has been recorded extracellularly in the alert cat. The activity of neurons was clearly related to passive dis- placements of the neck and showed type II response during horizontal (sinusoidal) vestibular stimulation. They further showed weak sensitivity to eye position and velocity. The role of this mass of reticular neurons in the sensori-motor coordination processes of head and eyes is discussed.
