Action of orotic acid on plants

Abstract
The action of theí€ orotic acid on autotrophic plants (a pha- nerogam, Lupinus albus, and a cryptogam, Chiarella pyrenoi dosa, green strain), on isolated and etiolated fragments not sub- mited to artificial nutrition (Avena coleoptile for Bonner test) or artificially cultived in vitro (isolated roots of Limivi- usita- tissiniuni), and on heterotrophic plants (TricophyInni viola- cenni, and Chorella pyrenoidosa, achloric mutant CM 52).
From theí€ realized experiments is deduced that orotic acid
1) Is practically ineffective on Lupinus albus seedlings, on theí€ cellular multiplication rate in an autotrophic strain of Chiarella pyrenoidosa, and on theí€ cellular elongation of theí€ Avena etio lated coleoptile.
2) It stimulates theí€ growth of isolated roots of Linum usi- latissiniuni, promotes cellular division in theí€ achloric mutant CM 52 of Chiarella pyrenoidosa and acts favourably in Trico- phytuni violaceuni multiplication.
The orotic acid action has been also essayed on plant tis- sues in vitro.
