Ionization capacity of versenate calcium disodium

Abstract
In the present work the ionization capacity of calcium-di- sodic-elhilendiaminotetracetate (Ca-Na,-EDTA) is studied, aspect we consider fundamental in judging its valué as a recalcifier. For it we have used a new technique owed to Soulier and col. (4), based on the utilization of a coagula ron system formed by magnesied amberlite or R.A.M., diluted thromboplastin solution and the problem serum inactivated with 60°C heat during 30 minutes.
This problem se rum was obtained from rabbits previously injected with 100 mg of Ca-Na2-EDTA per kg of weight. The lowering of the coagulation time of the system is, by this method, proportional to the amount of ionic calcium present in the se rum which is tested.
From our experiences (see figure) it is deduced that, after 60 minutes, Ca-Na2-EDTA liberates, in the organism, an amount of ionic calcium equivalent to 7-16 % of the total calcium contained in its molecule. In spite of this positivoresult, the remineralizing power of Ca-Na2-EDTA is doubted, due to its metal chelating condition.
