Abstract

Thyroidectomiced rats mantained on a low iodine diet were trealed with triiodo- thyronine, ACTH or both.

Steroids excretion in uriníƒe was measured and compared with that from normal rats and untreated thyroidectomiced rats on the same diet. ACTH alone had no effect on esteroids excretion in uriníƒe in thyroidectomiced rats; but three days treatament with triiodothyronine followed by ACTH produced an increase of esteroid excretion similar to the one produced in normal rats. Thyroid hormones may have a «permisive» effect on ACTH action on the adrenal cortex.
