Abstract

Inhibition of Insulin Secretion in vitro by Somatostatin. Rev. esp. Fisiol., 30, 299-302. 1974.

The isolated and perfused rat páncreas was used to study the insulin secretion stimulated by 16.7 mM glucose in the presence of SRIF (somatotropin release inhibiting factor); at a concentration of 2 /xg/ml, the latter was a potent inhibitor of insulin secretion. Since SRIF is effective in inhibiting growth hormone and glucagon secretion also, the secretory mechanism of the three hormones may have a common basis.
