The Effect of Growth on the Protein Componente of Músete In Rat. Rev. esp. Fisiol., 30, 199-206. 1974.


A study of the nitrogenous fractions of the rat’s muscle tissue has been conducted applying Helander’s method and following the rat’s development throughout its growing period after weaning. The results have shown that the muscular nitrogenous fractions change with the animal’s growth and that these changes are more significant than those related to the age of the animal. Sarcoplasmic protein grows from birth up to 37 days of age, when it reaches its máximum valué: 30 % of the muscular protein. Myofibriílar protein instead grows progressively within the growing period although its growth size is in function of the animal weight: between 60-100 g it goes from 39 % to 54 % of the muscular protein, whereas between 100-140 g the growth is only from 54 % to 62 %. The muscular non-protein nitrogenous fraction changes as the myofibriílar proteins, establishing a statistically significant correlation between the nitrogen contents iri the non-protein and the myofibriílar protein of the muscle tissue.
