Effect of Cortlsol on the Nitrogen Metabollsm In Quail (Coturnix coturnlx japonica). I. Growth and Nitrogen Balance

Abstract
The effects of cortisol on the growth, food intake, nitrogen balance, uric acid excretion and hepatic glycogen have been studied in quails. The experiment lasted 15 days, during the period of maximal growth, i.e. from 15 to 30 days of age. A daily dose of cortisol of 0.15 or 1.5 mg/100 g body weight was injected in tre fowl. The body weight, lenght, food intake and nitrogen balance was smaller in the treated quails than in the control ones. The former possessed also different hepatic glycogen content and uric acid excretion. Ali these findings agree with the well-known glyconeogenic effects of this compound.
