Abstract

Buscapine has a spasmolitic uterine action only of anticolinergic type. It lacks of papaverinic affect.

It does not anule the action of oxytocine, so it can be administered during the delivery. It antagonizes the oxytocic action of methergin, which seems to indicate the existence of a colinergic component in the mechanism of action of the above semisythetic alkaloid of ergot.
