Action of the lumbar gangliectomy in the healing of healing of postphlebitic ulcers (Experimental study)

Abstract
As a consequence of a number of experiments the following conclusions may be arrived at:
The healing of experimental ulcers 011 the legs is delayed when the ligature of the chief venous trunk of the member has been effected.
Such a delay in the healing of the experimental ulcer is accentuated when the chief vein has been thrombosed by retrograde injection.
Lumbar gangliectomy retards the healing process of experimental ulcers realized comparatively and simultaneously on the hindlegs still further, the femoral veins thereof having been tied up or sectioned and thrombosed distally.
It may definitely be stated that the healing of ulcers in a member in which there exists a deficit of venous return through ligature or thrombosis is retarded by the practice of a lumbar gangliectomy.
