Abstract

We obtain enterogastrone. from the intestinal mucose of the pig utilizing Greengard’s method; succesfully obtaining a product as active on the secretion by the stomach as Ivy’s, which is the most potent known.

We have studied the effect of enterogastrone on the gastric secretion of dogs with gastric fistula or Pavlov’s small stomach and on cats with total stomach pouch. Therefore on all the cases the vagal inervation is conserved.

Both on the dogs and on the cats we observed that enterogastrone produces a decrease in the volume secreted by the action of the histamine injection.

On the cats, a decrease not only of the volume secreted is observed but also of the total and free aciditys. On the dogs we did not observe any variation in the acid composition.

However we beleive that this different response is not due to a difference in species, but that it is possible to explain it by Teorell’s theory on gastric secretion.
