Abstract

26
The effects of vitamin B6 and its new derivatives B85 and P58 were studied in 69 elderly patients by mean of psychotechnic tests and EEG tracings. The feeling of subjective improvement was also recorded. Four groups were made according to age and psychologic and EEG data looking for the greatest homogeinity. Receiving each group daily doses of B85 (100 mg.), P58 (50 mg.), B6 (200 mg.) and a placebo respectively. The treatment lasted three months except that receiving which was administered during a month. Tough larger doses lack of secondary appreciable effects, relatively small doses have been used in this work with the purpose of trying the effectiveness of a prolonged treatment. Individuals receiving B85’P58’ B6 showed a marked subjective improvement, a clear gain in the results of psychotechnics tests and a regularization of EEG patterns. On the contrary, the patients of the placebo group did not better and the EEG records showed persistence or increase of cerebral dysrhythmia.
