In the first four decades of Independence, during the formation of the Republic, the edition of Catechisms in this country was considerably high, much more numerous than imported texts. In Mexico, twenty-two editions were published in Spanish. Among them, the most important was the Ripalda text, which included the content of Cayetano de San Juan. During the same period, twenty-eight elemental religious texts were edited in indigenous languages. In this essay, the author studies Clara y suscinta exposición del pequeño catecismo en el idioma mexicano, printed in Puebla (1819) by a diocesan priest whose name remains unknown.
