The Treaty on the Prohibition of nuclear weapons was adopted on 7 July 2017. This article firstly analyses its content and the legal obligations it imposes, in an attempt to determine whether it will really be able to put an end to this type of armament. Secondly, it attempts to set out the arguments put forward by states that have refused to ratify it, in particular its possible incompatibility with the Non-Proliferation Treaty. Finally, it reflects on the general state of the prohibition of nuclear weapons and how this new treaty could influence the formation of a customary prohibition.
