International law's commitment to human rights has multiplied in recent decades and is evident in a wide range of sectors. This article takes a particular look at the process of secession in Kosovo, justified on humanitarian and human rights protection grounds, which shows that even sovereignty can be fragmented when it comes to safeguarding the fundamental rights of a human group.
