Abstract

177
The topoi concerning the preferable, contained in the first chapters of Book III of Aristotle’s Topics, have some peculiarities that clearly distinguish them from the other topoi found in the central books of this work. In this article I compare the structure of both classes of topoi and I point out that those concerning what is preferable do not fit the theory of disputation set out in Book I. I show that the adjustments made by Aristotle are ineffective and I conclude that this set of topoi, which is badly linked with the rest of the work, could have been introduced in a more coherent manner.
