During the civil war, death was con-sidered a precious resource to legitimize and consolidate the position of the rebels. The greater importance of the deceased, the greater sacredness and legitimacy of the war and of Franco. José Antonio was the dead most im-portant of the Civil War. From his memory they were woven all kinds of stories reaching ex-tremes of legend. The Church and the Falange were active players in the «National» side, active players in the persistent dispute of the so called «death policies».
