Abstract

324
The Prince of Esquilache arrival to the Viceroyalty of Peru (1615-1621) marked the beginning of a controversial political figure that had already been put into practice by the governance of the Spanish Monarchy: the Vice-roy’s favorite. Similar to the phenomenon started by the Duke of Lerma, the Indies also experienced new times in the way of administrating royal favour. This article reflects upon the nature and consequences of this figure, embodied by Martín de Acedo, in the relationships of favor and exclusion in the viceregal sphere.
