En este artículo se argumenta que la ética del cuidado requiere revisar tanto la noción de contrato social como responder adecuadamente a las necesidades de la prestación de cuidados. Se hace una reconsideración en su conjunto del valor del contrato social y se reflexiona acerca del lugar que ocupa en nuestra sociedad, así como en la teoría social y política. Asimismo, se argumenta sobre los beneficios de la ética del cuidado frente a las teorías éticas contemporáneas, sosteniendo que puede servir para afrontar problemas sociales y globales.
