Protein assay of rat liver mitochondria and mitochondrial membrane preparations

Abstract

Various methods of protein assay, including modification of the Lowry and biuret procedures, as well as measurements of absorbance of detergent-solubilized proteins, have been applied to rat liver mitochondria and mitochondrial membrane prepara­ tions. Total and protein nitrogen have been determined in the same preparations by the Kjeldahl procedure. The different methods are examined critically and conversion factors are given in order to obtain (real) Kjeldahl values from any of the methods tested.
