Sialic acids. V. The N-glycolyl-neuraminic acid content of the glycoproteins from cow colostrum

Abstract
AftEr precipitating cow colostrum with Ethanol a glycoprotein has been obtained which gives a crystallized product containing N-glycolylneuraminic acid (NGNA).
N-acetylneuraminic acid (NANA) is the main substance in this crystallized product; it is followed by the NGNA; by paper-chromatography another (sometimes two) component appears as a very weak spot; it corresponds likely to pluriacylneuraminic acids.
The percent of NGNA is 13,3 % in relation with the whole of the remaining acids in the crystallized product.
