Abstract

A study is made of the faecal elimination of endogenous calcium in rats fed with calcium-free diets in which the protein source was boiled liver powder or a lipidpro- tein complex of peanuts. The diets were adjusted to 12 % protein, 4 % fat, 8 % fibre, mineral complex (without Ca), vitamin complex and sugar and starch in equal parts up to 100 g of dry weight. The influence of increasing doses of sodium oxalate on endo genous calcium is also studied. An approximate technique is suggested for the separate quantitative determination of the endogenous secretion of calcium, reabsorption of secreted endogenous calcium and faecal excretion of calcium.
