Effect of the hypoxia on hemoglobin oxygen affinity of the mouse

Abstract
Changes of hemoglobin oxygen affinity of the normal mouse caused by exposure to acute hypoxic hypoxia, was compared with those of anemic and polycythemic mice. Oxygen affinity was determined by the rate of release of oxygen from full saturated hemoglobin into a 95 % nytrogen gas phase and by assessing the P-, o hemoglobin saturation. Acute hypoxia and anemia facilitate oxygen release whereas the polycythemia developed by either chronic exposure to hypoxia or transfusion does not modify substantially this parameter. Anemia and acute hypoxia caused a shift of the oxygen saturation tension to the right relative to that of normal and polycithemic mice
