Effect of the bilateral olfactory bulbs removal on the daily fluctuations on the plasmatic corticosterone levels

Abstract
The influence of the bilateral destruction of the olfactory bulbs on the circadian rhythm of plasmatic corticosterone in rat was investigated. Twentyfive days after bulbectomy, the values of corticosterone in the morning and in the evening were not significantly different. The possible involvement of the stria medularis, habenula, septum and preoptic area in the determination of this phenomenon is discussed.
