Abstract

70
Increasing interest is focusing on corporations’ contribution to development, especially in developing countries. Awareness of the need for more balanced economic development has given rise to some conceptions of company activity that are here analysed from the point of view of the social doctrine of the Church. The common aspects shared by a conception inspired by so called «sustainable development» and the Church’s ideas about development are emphasised. However, from the point of view of the Catholic Church, some prevailing ideas require a more profound underpinning, while others have to be definitively changed if genuine human development is to be achieved.
