Abstract

92
The de-hellenisation of Christianity described in the Regensburg address implies the existence of a certain barrier between Christian revelation and reason. This impermeableness is also manifested when it comes to interpreting Sacred Scripture. This is especially perceptible at two moments in the history of the protestant reformation, but has also had repercussions in Catholic exegesis: the first of these was with Luther, and the second in the last two centuries. In both these cases, biblical revelation has been treated as different or heterogeneous with regard to reason. Moreover, in both these cases justice is not done to the origin of the biblical texts, which is natural, reasonable and supernatural at the same time. This idea is demonstrated on the basis of the texts of Joseph Ratzinger.
