Abstract

345
The Synod of Bishops in 1985 represented an affirmation of the validity of the Second Vatican Council. The Synod did not assemble to stand in the way of the Council but to celebrate and support it as testimony to God’s will. Another objective of the Synod was to verify the postcouncil situation. A hermeneutic key to its reception was indicated: interpretation of the teachings of the council in a united manner, as a continuation of Tradition, taking into account the interconnection of all the documents, particularly in the light of the four great constitutions. The Synod called for the conflict between the pastoral nature and the doctrinal content of the Council to be overcome.
