Abstract

121
The Second Vatican Council profoundly reformed the theology of priesthood by placing it within the Church as a priestly people. The Council considers the whole priestly dimension of the People of God, and more specifically the ministerial priesthood, as the participation in the priesthood of Christ, in His consecration and mission. In this regard, the affirmation of the sacramentality of the episcopate –primum analogatum of the ministerial priesthood– seems very relevant. This new approach has resulted in a pastoral reform of the theology of priesthood. The author concludes by analysing the fruitfulness of the new approaches that arose from the Council.
