Good, Truth and Knowledge in Plato. A Response to the Polian Reading of the Idea of the Good as the Foundation of Knowledge
Main Article Content
Abstract
This article examines the relationship between good and knowledge in Plato’s Republic, in dialogue with Leonardo Polo’s reception of this subject. To do so, it offers, firstly, a reconstruction of the Platonic notion of the good in Polo’s work during the 80s and 90s. Subsequently, through an analysis of relevant texts from the Republic, it discusses Polo’s interpretation regarding the access to the good and the type of causality associated with the good in relation to knowledge. The article proposes an alternative reading that questions Polo’s thesis that Aristotle’s doctrine of knowledge as an act is radically incompatible with Platonic epistemology.
