Abstract

213

In the context of scholarly interest in the Scottish Enlightenment, partly as a result of the work of Duncan Forbes and John G. A. Pocock, Hume’s political work has received renewed attention. The present essay explores the structural unity of Hume’s political theory, as it is sketched out mainly in Book III of the Treatise of Human Nature, his Essays and in the History of England.
