Michel Foucault: René Descartes and the body as machine in the thesis of disciplinary power
Main Article Content
Abstract
The aim of this study is to interpret the relationship between Descartes’ anatomical model and the disciplinary regime that M. Foucault proposes in his thesis on power in Modernity. It shows how Foucault situates Descartes as the initiator of a medicine that would turn the human body into a machine and, like the machine, would be conceived of as a mechanical system that could be explored, controlled and manipulated.
