Abstract

It is a commonplace the interpretation of Descartes as disinterested in moral issues. This is how Foucault reads him, for whom Modernity meant the separation between the new central subject of knowledge and the now secondary subject of praxis. In this article Descartes’ work will be understood as a modern version of the philosophical art of living, where knowing and taking care of oneself are still united by a central axis, free will.
