This article analyses the role played by the landscape (natural and artificial) in Rousseau’s work. It is studied by genetic logic, from the forest to the “total landscape”, through the observed natural landscape and garden. It studies the anthropological and personal fundaments of each case, focusing on their aesthetic, ethical and political importance, to the service of a project that wasn’t regressive but progressive.
