Abstract

After Ana Orantes’ murder in 1997, media coverage of violence against women changed radically. This event modified media criteria of selection of information, caused an increase of number of news and consolidated new media frames that had an effect on public perception of this social problem. The information process was influenced by evolution of definition of the reality and by different social and political actors. News frames and interactions between social indicators, public, political and media agendas can be explained following framing model as described by Reese in 2001.
