Abstract

This article deals with the relationship between cinema and society according to the British Filmaker David Puttnam, producer of movies such as Chariots of fire, The Killing Fields and The Mission. Besides being a creative producer, what differences Puttnam from other film producers is his understanding of movies as mass comunication. In this sense, Puttnam argues that movies have a powerful influence on society and therefore the film-maker must be aware of his/her social responsability.
