Abstract

This work presents the case of Banco Itaú in order to study corporate governance from a perspective that transcends mechanisms based on agency relations. Differences between formal and informal systems are discussed, and the importance of the latter is highlighted. The case combines primary and secondary sources with interviews with Banco Itaú executives. Organizational narratives provide new elements of analysis in the study of corporate governance.
