Abstract

A technique is exposed for the determination of serum mu coproteins, based on Winzler’s with application of Folin copper reagent of Lowry et al. for the final titration of the mucoprotein precipitate. With this technique, the normal valúes of serum mucoproteins are studied in a series of 36 normal sera, 19 corresponding to masculine and 17 to femenine sex, whose data are presented in picture 1. The global average is 52.84 mg % with a cr of 16.87. Considering apart both sexes, the average value is qual to 58.63 and 46.38, for the masculine and femenine, respectively. Studying the differences observed in the duphcates of the 36 determinations, an average difference of ± 2.75 mg of mucoprotein % is obtained, with limits of 0.0 to 7.40, although the difference is less than + 5 mg in a 85.7 % of the cases.
