Abstract

Splenectomized animáis develop anaemia with a high rate of mortality. The anaemia is of the hemolytic tipe and seems to be more severe by a bartonelliasis, -which is reactivated because of the splenectomy. This fact seems to corrobórate the opinión sustained by several authors on a possible crucial role of the spleen in the self-depense of the body against infections, in a similar way as in early infancy.
