This article analyses the analyses the two sonnets on the loss of La Goleta, included in Quixote, I, 40, in the context of the Captive Captain’s story. These mannerist, well structured poems, eulogize the heroic value of the christian soldiers, considered as martyrs: they have been defeated, they have lost their lives, but really they have become victors because they have reached the immortality and the eternal glory.
