The aim of these pages is to propose some guidelines to analyze the cohesion and coherence in Spanish texts, that could be useful in teaching activity, and to provide some actualized and integrating information, in order to organize the several available bibliography. As starting point, this article studies the consequences of understanding the text as a unit of linguistic analysis. Secondly, it locates the role played by cohesion and coherence in the organization of the text, in the most possible schematic way. In this frame, the main mechanisms associated to each of the qualities –cohesion in special– are reviewed and, at a time, this article offers many examples about each of the proposed aspects.
