Abstract

140
At the end of the 20th century, coinciding with the development of a supranational entity -the European Union- in the 1980s and 90s, several theatrical networks emerged. Their fundamental aim is to establish co-operation that will subsequently lead to profound cultural awareness in the different countries that make up the networks through their theatres. The first net to emerge with these characteristics of theatrical interrelations was the European Theatre Convention. This represents the first attempt to undertake a European theatre which goes beyond national identities and creates a common cultural space, in which respect, mutual knowledge and interchange become the fundamental points of union.
