We expose in this paper the model of linguistic knowledge formulated by E. Coseriu, which we consider of great interest both form the theoretical as from the didactical point of view. Although we briefly consider her its appliance in the SFL classroom, we mainly underline its theoretical interest by means of its comparison with some of the most relevant models of linguistic competence.
